Update Japan and Sendai
This is an update of the Japan and Sendai topographic maps. There are numerous changes:
- I used newer data (16.03.2011)
- I tried to correct the transcription of Japanese tags into English.
- There is an additional layer showing many of the humanitarian OSM tags for damaged roads and buildings
- Routing now honours the tags indicating blocked/destroyed/flooded roads

Many thanks to Klaus Finkenzeller for his valuable help with the Japanese language!
I used this script for the transliteration of japanese characters into latin1.

Could take a screenshot showing a hospital in Japan or something like that. Actually even better would be a photo of a garmin unit showing this on the screen.
I linked you from the wiki page here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/2011_Sendai_earthquake_and_tsunami but I'm going to be doing some tidying up of that page, and I think this kind of photo could be quite visually appealing to go on there.
You may take the screenshots above, they are from my eTrex Legend HCx.
I am n00b on OSM, but since I am involved with the efforts in Japan, would like to help if possible with more frequent updates on this map. How automated is the process of compiling it?
Couple of questions:
Is the Japan map the same as the previous Honshu i.e. is it routable?
Are there any plans to extend the map further south to include the remainder of Honshu and beyond to Kyushu?
